- breaking day for fed-ex. >>> good morning. i'm dave clark. >> i'm it it. >>> we be -- i'm tori campbell. >>> we begin with a big rig fire. it happened at 3:00 this morning. tara moriarty is live with more. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. it's a route that this truck driver says he's taken twice a month. when he came through this parking lot here, there was a wire. he says that's not normally here. that's what the big rig snagged. if you look here you can see the remains of the truck here. now, we could see and hear sparks. there was an explosion and could you feel the heat yards away. it happened around 3:15 at sweeney camp which is part of the juvenile detention facility off fairmont drive. two men were trapped inside the big rig hit the power lines. he just happens to be a volunteer firefighter. >> he trains as a volunteer firefighter told him if you are in energized wires to jump. they may not have known they were energized at the time but they jumped. >> reporter: we've been speaking to the men. they are pretty grateful. the volunteer firefighter knew to jump and then
. >>> well, good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's dues, december 11th -- it's tuesday, december 11th. >>> a cliff rescue is happening right now and one lane is closed because of the rescue. brian flores has more. brian? >> reporter: emergency crews finished up a few minutes ago. both lanes of highway 35 are reopen. besigned me is the general area where this car went off the cliff here. lights just started showing up here. but still very dark out here, as you can see. emergency crews and the california highway patrol, they were hoping to get the car that drove off the cliff. the car drove off the cliff 100 to 200 feet here. we saw the person who may be the driven. he was given a breathalyzer test as we arrived. the chp says it is still being investigated whether speed or alcohol was in the crash. the passenger has moderate to major injuries according to the chp and was taken to a local hospital. >> it has major damage to it. obviously, going down the embankment, it didn't hit much debris but on the way down it did sustain damage to
. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's wednesday, december 12th. >>> we're following developing news in san jose. just hours ago, a pickup truck slammed into an apartment building where children were sleeping. ktvu's janine de la vega is in san jose and spoke to the children's father. good morning, janine. >> reporter: the father told me his family has not slept much but any are breathing a sigh of relief. their little girl was just brought home from the hospital. this is after a truck ran off the road. you can see where the tire marks are here and it ran off the road and plowed down a fence there and smashed into a bedroom. police say the driver of the truck traveling eastbound on taylor veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into an apartment at the villa apartments on 23rd street. now, here's a look at the damage inside. the truck crashed into a room where an 8-year-old boy was sleeping and then a room where a 2-year-old girl was screaming. >> my baby's mother has a lot of scars because of the glass. but fortunately, my baby was no hit with no glass
